The article aims to explore the preconditions for the emergence of a new approach to historical facts in the artistic system of the historiographic novel. The article aims to identify the distinctive features of Victorian interpretation and its connections to modern times using A.S. Byatt's novels "Obsession: A Novel" and "Morpho Eugenia" as examples. The article utilizes historical-genetic and historical-functional research methods.
